An antique hand coloured and varnished lithograph in an Austrian Art Nouveau frame. The print was published in 1906 by Arthur Ackermann & Son of Regent Street London and also in Berlin by Stiefbold. It looks as if a new team of horses has just been harnessed up, the previous team are being led into the stables opposite. Various smartly dressed figures coach passengers standing around. The scene is called'A Fresh Team' but that is not visible here.

Signed in the plate lower right. Beautifully hand painted with watercolour and body coloured, varnished with gum arabic or similar. Many might take it for an actual watercolour. In excellent condition and very well presented in a frame of similar date of birds eye maple or similar with'Jugendstil' copper corner mounts each decorated with a thistle. Each corner is stamped'R.

Melcher, Wien' and'Patent in Allen Straten', see photographs above. A label verso for Rudolph Ackermann, Dealer in Works of Art, 203 Regent Street, suggests that the frame and the lithograph were supplied together. Glazed and ready to hang. Note the photographs have been taken through the glass, the last is the most accurate depiction of the colour as the others were taken in very bright light which has washed it out slightly. Measures 43 x 72.5cm including the frame, the visible image only is 32.5 x 62cm.

Gilbert Scott Wright is a well known painter of coaching and other equestrian scenes who was born in Headingley nr Leeds. He did not receive formal art training but is thought to have learned from his older brother, the equestrian artist George Wright, with whom he worked for some years. The original Austrian Jugendstil frame is also of value. My aim is to offer a selection of interesting, well researched works with prices starting at just a few pounds and to increase the appreciation of engravings! Also, happy to take on commissions if there are specific artists or types of work you would like found for you. New items are added regularly so please do keep looking. I hope all past, present and prospective customers stay safe and well through these extraordinary times. With best wishes to all.
