The contrast between the light cream color of the complexion, obtained with a very hard patination of the terracotta, and the dark colors of the helmet and the rest of the torso is of great effect. Also beautiful is the pedestal adorned in the center with various Bourbon lilies and in the lower corners with two caryatids. The Goldscheider terracottas are by far the most important and most expensive among all those produced in Europe in the last decades of the 1800s.
