Julius Dressler Pair of Bohemian Austrian Art Nouveau Cobalt Blue Vases

Julius Dressler Pair of Bohemian Austrian Art Nouveau Cobalt Blue Vases. These are two beautiful 11.5 vases are embellished with flowing tendrils in a warm earth tone on a rich Glossy Cobalt Blue background. They are an Art Nouveau style and were probably made around the turn of the 20th Century.

Vases like these are made in a mould so that the decorations will stand out from the body of the vase. The hand painting and glazes are applied after the original clay has been sealed with usually a white, blue or pink coating. The vases are very pretty and have specks of shiny gold metallic paint that shines through the filigree on top and elsewhere in the vase. The Cobalt Blue is nice and strong, but the top glaze was not put on evenly on the beige vines and flowers or has worn away so that the blue color shows through. This is apparent on certain flowers at the top and on the throat of one of the vases which gives those portions a dull appearance.

One of the vases has a small piece of clay missing from the inside of the filigree portion. There is a small chip on one of the feet of the vases..

Not very noticeable because of the paint and design. There is a piece at the top of one of the vases that has been broken off and re-glued. There are a few hairline marks on both vases, but they're not many and do not compromise the stability of the vases or detract from their attractiveness. I would not use the vases with water in them, but rather as decor with faux flowers. These are not perfect collectibles, but are very nice pre-owned examples of the Julius Dressler vases produced in the past!

Please look at all of the pictures carefully as they are being "AS IS" & NOT Returnable. I have researched the markings and I think that the small "a" impressed on the bottom represents Austria as the place of origin and the "M" might stand for Majolica. I think that the number on them is either the mould number or represents the pattern design. Comes from a non-smoking home.
