Pair of large Austrian Majolica portrait vases, with winged dragons 19th Century
Beautiful pair of Austrian, Majolica portrait vases from the late 19th century. Each vase features a beautiful maiden, in Renaissance style dress, hand painted vibrant colors, against a dramatic cobalt blue background. Each vase is flanked by a pair of upside down, colorful, winged dragons, whose faces are artfully tucked beneath their wings. The organic, scrolling design of the dragons, sunflower detail throughout, and the tulip motif surrounding the neck of each vase, is typical of the style of the Art Nouveau era.
There are loses to each of the bottom of the dragon wing tips, and to three of the eight top wing tips. There is also a small chip in the sunflower ring around the base of one vase. Overall condition is good, and wear is typical to items of this nature. Please refer to photos to view loses. Vases measure 13" h x 9" w x 6 d.
Base width is 4", and neck opening is approximately 3". These dramatic statement pieces would be stunning in any decor!
